Buying freshwater prawn
Large freshwater prawns need a precise finished-product specification. A whole-prawn size cannot be carried over to a headless or peeled product without checking the count again. For a U4 or U5 inquiry, include the weight unit and deglazed basis from the start.
Third-party pre-shipment inspection, including OFCO, can be arranged on request. Share any inspection, testing or buyer approval requirements before the order is agreed.
Questions about freshwater prawn
Is giant river prawn the same species as this freshwater prawn?
Yes. This page covers Macrobrachium rosenbergii, commonly called giant river prawn or giant freshwater prawn. Include the scientific name in your inquiry because other freshwater prawn species also exist.
Can you check U4 or U5 freshwater prawns?
Send your required form, count per pound or kilogram, deglazed basis, packing and volume. U4 means fewer than four pieces per specified weight unit; U5 means fewer than five. We will check availability against that exact specification.
Is freshwater prawn sold as scampi?
Some suppliers use scampi as a trade name for freshwater prawn, but the name can refer to other seafood in other markets. Specify Macrobrachium rosenbergii and confirm the appropriate product name for your destination.
